10 Things To Do This Sunday That Will Improve Your Week

Recently, on Instagram, I asked everyone what their favourite day of the week is. Of course, a lot of people said Friday, but Sunday was a popular answer. I can totally relate to those Sunday lovers. Some people use the day to relax, others like to use the day to get things done, while others may use the day to catch up with friends and/or family. However you choose to spend it, I think we can all agree that Sunday is the perfect day to reset before the week begins.

Here’s what you can do on Sundays that will help you start the week off right.

Go grocery shopping
This will help you eat healthier because you’ll be able to plan your meals for the week. Also, you’ll have more free time during the week because you won’t have to run to the grocery store.

Prep your meals
Life can get hectic! So, spend your Sunday by prepping your lunches, dinners, and snacks for the week.

Organize your closet and plan your outfits
By doing this you’ll save yourself the frustration of not knowing what to wear and trying to find certain clothes throughout the week.

Clean out your bag
Get rid of the crumpled up receipts, gum wrappers, and put the loose change back in your wallet. It’ll make you feel more organized!

Do your laundry
Wash your clothes on Sunday, and you won’t have a shortage of clean clothes in the middle of the week!

Write a to-do list

If you mentally plan out your week ahead by writing a to-do list of the tasks you want to accomplish you’ll head into the week with a clear head.

I know the list above involves a lot of “chores”, but don’t forget to set aside time to relax.

Have a bath
De-stress from the previous week by having a warm bath to relax before jumping into the new week.

Sleep in
If you don’t need to jump out of bed on Sunday morning then sleep in! Get some rest before the workweek starts.

Start the day slow
Once you get out of bed, make your favourite breakfast, read the paper and/or watch your favourite show.

Catch up on a book you’ve been meaning to read to give your mind a break from life-stuff.

Spend this Sunday doing some (or all) of the things on this list to have a better week ahead! Take the time to get things done, but also remember to recharge your mind, body, and soul.

Ultimate Guide to Spring Cleaning

We still have a lot of snow in Ontario, but the weather is slowly starting to warm up! However, the last two days it’s been snowing. But, I can see a glimpse of spring because temperatures are starting to increase (at a turtle’s pace).

Spring is one of my favourite seasons because the sunshine helps people feel a little brighter; sunrays seem to increase people’s overall happiness. Not only does spring bring smiles, but it also reawakens the “cleaning bug” inside of us. Yes! I mean spring cleaning. I know it’s three weeks into spring, however, I am still cleaning! A clean home is a clear head!

Here’s my guide to having a good spring clean.

Wardrobe and Makeup

Now is the time to do a deep clean of your closet and makeup bag. I’ve grouped these together because they are the same type of deal! It’s time to go through your clothes and makeup and throw out the ones you don’t wear/use.

Here’s what you should toss:

  • Makeup or clothing you haven’t worn/used in a year.
  • Expired beauty products.
  • Beauty products and clothing that you hold onto because you’ll need it “someday.”
  • Unwearables (stretched-out bras, baggy sweats, clothing with stains, empty makeup bottles etc).
  • Clothing that you don’t feel confident in.

Fridge, Freezer and Pantry

It’s time to tackle your fridge and freezer. You use these every day so it’s important to keep them clean, right?!

Here’s how to do a complete spring clean of both your fridge and freezer:

  • Throw out what’s expired, and moldy.
  • Toss what’s been in your freezer for a year.
  • Wipe drawers, racks, and shelves.
  • Wipe the inside/outside of your fridge, freezer and pantry.

It can be easy for clutter and grime to build up in the bathroom. So, it’s important to give it a deep clean. Now, before you start cleaning declutter your drawers, cabinet, and closet! Do this by throwing out products you don’t need or use, or expired. Also, group products you’re keeping together so you can keep your bathroom organized.

Here’s how to do a deep clean of the room:

  • Wash the shower curtain and rugs.
  • Dust lights and vents.
  • Scrub the shower and tub using disinfectant and bleach.
  • Use a window cleaner to wipe mirrors, and sink(s).
  • Wipe down the toilet.
  • Sweep and vacuum floors and then wash them with a cleaning solution.

It’s easy for the capacity on your phone to fill up.

Here’s how to free up space on your phone:

  • Delete selfies, photos of food, and other photos on your phone that you don’t need anymore.
  • Delete apps that you don’t use anymore.
  • Delete music that you don’t listen to anymore.

I know this is something a lot of people wouldn’t consider spring cleaning, but organizing your finances is important. Just go through your earnings, your spendings, and gather any receipts. This is great to do since April marks the start of a new tax year, but it also helps you have a good look at what you’re spending.

It’s important to make time to do a proper spring clean in your home! Like I said above, a clean home is a clean mind. It may take a few days to complete your spring cleaning, but at the end of it you’ll feel a whole lot better!

4 Reasons Why You Should Celebrate International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day!

I can still hear men and women mumble the words “that’s not for girls.” When I was younger, I didn’t realize that my freedom of rights came from the women who fought for it. I never realized how incredibly privileged I am to be living in a society where most countries allow women to live their lives freely by chasing after their dreams instead of living just to be a mother.

Living in today’s world as a woman is a lot better than what we had to face in the past. However, there are still so many things that need to be changed. Here are 4 reasons why you should be celebrating today.

1. Women are still sexually harassed.

An online survey that was launched last year shows 81% of women have been sexually harassed. Sadly, this is a reality us as women face every single day. Walking downtown as a woman and hearing men catcalling and making inappropriate comments is our normal. Can you believe that? We are living in a world where men can say and do as they please and us women are so used to it that most of us just ignore it and continue on with our day. We have to start standing up to these men so they know it’s not OK to make us feel uncomfortable.

2. Girls are still forced into marriage.

Child brides are still a real thing. In fact, this is just the norm in some countries such as southern Ethiopia. Around 700 million women in the world today were married before they were 18 years old. Most children that are forced into marriage are taken away from their family and expected to raise a family and look after the house. These children are robbed of their education and dreams.

3. There’s still a pay discrepancy between men and women.

Yes, this is still a thing. According to a recent study, the salary for women is 22 percent lower than the salary for men. Need I say more? Imagine if your coworker was a man, and the two of you did the exact same job but he was getting paid more. What would be the logical answer as to why companies do this?

4. Women still can’t make their own decisions about their bodies

Whether you believe in abortions or not, at the end of the day women should be able to own and control their own bodies. Why should someone else have the power to tell us what we can and can not do when it comes to our OWN body?

Those are just four reasons as to why we still need to celebrate International Women’s Day!

Women are awesome, women are funny, and women are smart! So, make sure that you are acknowledging today. Remember, we are in charge of shaping our future. So, support your local girl gang and continue to make a difference.

As you celebrate, remember that you’re celebrating because of working women, socialists and union workers who campaigned for the women today.

The Five Different Types of Self-Care

Self-care is still being promoted everywhere! There are plenty of social media shares, podcasts, and YouTube videos about it. But, I find that these platforms only focus on certain aspects of self-care, such as face-masks and spa days. Yes, pampering yourself is a form of self-care, however, it’s important for you to know that it’s a lot deeper than that. Self-care is dedicating some time out of your day to take care of your mental, emotional and physical health. It allows you to check in with yourself, and do something that makes you happy.

There are actually five different types of self-care that you should be practicing. Here they are!

It’s Alright to Feel Lost When You’re 25

I am turning 25 on Friday, and I am having a quarter midlife crisis. When I was in high school I thought by the time I was 25 I would have my own house and a stable job! But, here I am still in school, and I don’t have a job (yet) related to my career. I was going to write about the things you should accomplish by the time you turn 25, but I don’t think that’s fair! Who am I to make a life manual for you, or tell you what you should be doing at a particular time? We are all at different stages of our lives. Some of us have children, some of us are traveling, some of us are in school, and some of us are still figuring our lives out.
