Here’s How You Can Have a Productive Weekend

Weekends are precious. Those two days out of the week allow us to rewind and give our brains a break from our work lives. They let us focus on the things we enjoy with the friends we love. I know that weekends can go by in a blink of an eye, but they take up three-and-a-half months of our year! That’s plenty of time for fun, relaxation, and recharging our batteries. Here’s how you can feel refreshed after having a productive weekend, so you can avoid those Monday blues!

Start your day early. Most of us tend to waste weekend mornings by sleeping in or checking out social media.  Try waking up at the same time every day to get that internal clock to work. This weekend, make a point of getting out of bed early. Use those extra hours to work out, read, or take the dog for a long walk. Getting up before anyone else in the house will allow you to get some self-care time in!

Don’t leave all your tidying up for the weekend. Stop leaving every chore for the weekend! How will you be able to focus on yourself if those two days are filled with cleaning, laundry, and whatever else that may have been put aside? Try breaking your chores up throughout the week. Clean your house on Tuesdays, and do your laundry on Wednesdays. Going into a weekend with clean clothes, fresh sheets, and a clean house will do wonders! Also, try seeing loved ones throughout the week as well, instead of planning to see everyone during the weekend. Grab an early breakfast during the week with someone you’ve been meaning to see or grab a drink with them after work. Doing these things will remove the pressure you may be feeling from leaving everything until the last minute!

Take up a hobby. Use the weekend as your chance to do something fun that’s not work-related. If you want to learn how to paint, sign up for an art class. If you like to cook, try a new recipe. Dedicate a few hours of your weekend to a fun hobby. Enjoying your hobbies will give your busy mind a break, and it will still make you feel like you’re doing something productive! After all, you deserve to have fun.

Do something fun on Sunday nights. Instead of allowing the last few hours of your weekend to give you the blues, do something you’ll actually look forward to! My fun Sunday activities are cooking a nice meal and then watching Desperate Housewives. For you, they might be reading a book, going for a run, or maybe even journaling!

Leave your planning for Fridays. Instead of mentally calling it a day after 3pm, take an extra hour to prep for Monday morning. Use this time to respond to last-minute emails, and respond to voicemails before heading home. If you plan ahead, your weekend will be a lot smoother.

If you start structuring your weekends more efficiently, you’ll stop wondering how those two days flew by. Try out these tips this weekend, and let me know how it goes in the comments!
